Dr Sylvia McLean
BVSc, BAgSc (Munich)


Sylvia came to Christchurch in 1983 after graduating from Munich Veterinary School. After working in a number of Christchurch companion animal practices over the following years, she bought the St. Martins Veterinary Clinic in 1987 and has managed it ever since.

Sylvia is a member of the New Zealand Veterinary Association and the New Zealand Companion Animal Society.

Her special interests include skin conditions and reproduction. Sylvia also uses homeopathic remedies for suitable patients and on the client's request.
When not at work, Sylvia usually enjoys time out riding her horse, or spending time with her teenage son Angus.

"At my 20th professional anniversary I feel as passionate about my work as I did when I first came out of Vet School. I really enjoy the contact with people and their animals – a large number of whom I have known for many years."


Dr Duncan Graham, BVSc, BSc (Hons)

Duncan graduated from Massey in 1984.

He is a member of NZ Veterinary Association and the Companion Animal Society, and a member of the American Academy of Veterinary Dermatologists.

He spent a year in the USA studying Dermatology at UC Davis and Cornell, then a six month residency in dermatology.

Duncan lives with his family in Nelson, and visits the St Martins Veterinary Clinic once monthly to see animals referred to him for skin problems. See the Dermatology link for more information.


Gail McCutcheon
Nat. Cert. Veterinary Nursing


Gail joined the clinic in 2004 as a full-time nurse, after completing the National Certificate in Veterinary Nursing in 2003.

She is a member of the New Zealand Veterinary Nursing Association.

Her hobbies include running, mountain biking and swimming, walking and gardening.

 

Kerry Garrett
Nat. Cert. Veterinary Nursing


Kerry gained her National Certificate in Veterinary Nursing in 2006.

She had been a long term client and volunteer at the clinic which sparked her into studying to become a nurse.

She now works part time at the clinic and has 4 cats of her own at home.

Dr Heather Remnant
BVSc, BSc, MRCVS


Heather graduated from Massey in 1990, and after working for her first 2 years in Taranaki, headed for England. Her first job there was in rural practice in Cornwall, then on to London to manage a busy small animal practice, where she stayed for 5 years, until moving to Christchurch in 1999.

Heather initially worked as a locum in Christchurch, working part-time and looking after her young son, Jack. She has worked at the St. Martins Vet Clinic since January 2001. She became a partner in the practice in 2003.

Heather is a member of the New Zealand Veterinary Association, the New Zealand Companion Animal Society and the Veterinary Information Network.

Heather's special interest is in Cardiology, and she is experienced in rabbit and rodent medicine, surgery and dentistry.

While in London, Heather gained an LRPS in photography. She loves travelling, fishing and skiing.

Annette Smith
Dip (Home Science)
Nat. Cert. Veterinary Nursing


Annette joined the St. Martins Vet Clinic in 1999, after qualifying with a National Certificate in Veterinary Nursing in 1998. She is a member of the New Zealand Veterinary Nursing Association.

She has worked for over 10 years as a veterinary nurse, first in mixed practice in Darfield, then at several clinics in Christchurch and a short stint in South Africa.

She travelled after university, lived in England and has a teenage son plus a large dog that rules the household. She has a 5 acre farmlet with horses and hens.


Candice Leighs
Nat. Cert. Veterinary Nursing

Candice joined the clinic in 2006 having completed the National Certificate in Veterinary Nursing in 2005. She continues to study for a Bachelor of Commerce degree at university, and works part time at the clinic.

Candice has a huntaway cross dog, and her hobbies include art and photography and she plays netball.
